CHS IB: Redefining the High Achiever

Being an International Baccalaureate student at Campbell High School means rejecting the false choice between academic rigor and a vibrant high school experience. As Cobb County’s original academic magnet program (est. 1997), CHS IB delivers a world-class, globally recognized pre-university curriculum designed to develop balanced, principled, and intellectually fearless learners.

What is the IB Diploma Programme?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is an internationally benchmarked academic curriculum that challenges students to excel across disciplines while building lifelong research, analytical, and self-management skills:

  • The Academic Core (6 Subject Groups): Students take standard and higher-level courses across Literature, World Language Acquisition, Individuals & Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and Fine Arts/Electives.

  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK): A flagship seminar examining how we know what we know—evaluating knowledge claims across philosophy, ethics, and modern sciences.

  • The Extended Essay (EE): A 4,000-word university-level independent research paper written on a topic of personal passion under faculty mentorship.

  • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS): Experiential learning requiring regular community involvement, artistic exploration, and personal wellness beyond the classroom.

Why IB Matters: For Admissions & For Life

  • Proven College Admissions Advantage: Admissions teams recognize the depth of the IB Diploma. IB candidates consistently see higher acceptance rates at top-tier universities, receive significant transfer credit/advanced standing, and achieve higher collegiate GPAs and four-year graduation rates.

  • Genuine University Readiness: With extensive experience in university-style seminar debates, source citations, and primary research, IB graduates arrive on campus already operating at a collegiate level.

  • Lifelong Global Perspective: By exploring real-world issues through multicultural case studies and second-language immersion, students gain an adaptable worldview and deep intercultural understanding.

  • Mastery of Executive Functioning: Balancing six core subject areas with community projects builds the time management, self-advocacy, and stamina needed for demanding career pathways.

The CHS Difference: A Scaffolding Approach to the Whole Student

  • No "Thrown to the Wolves" Culture: We do not drop freshmen into advanced collegiate work on day one. Our four-year magnet pathway is intentionally scaffolded - building analytical writing, study habits, and critical thinking year by year so students step into the Diploma Program with total confidence.

  • Developing the Whole Student: Rigor is only one dimension of the high school experience. CHS IB students are varsity athletes, orchestra concertmasters, robotics competitors, and student leaders who maintain balance and wellness across all four years.

  • Collaboration Over Competition: CHS IB replaces cutthroat rivalry with genuine community. From freshman transition days to senior CAS Showcases, students pull each other across the finish line through structured upperclassmen mentorship and peer study groups.

  • Targeted Enrichment: Our active booster community sponsors student socials, grade-level community events, and pilot enrichment outings that bring classroom learning to life.

Campbell IB by the Numbers

  • 560+ Driven students creating a dynamic, supportive magnet community.

  • #1 Cobb County's first and longest-standing academic magnet program.

  • 4-Year Purposefully scaffolded curriculum building skills for university and life.

To be a CHS IB student is to be challenged beyond the standard curriculum, grounded in community, and completely prepared to excel in whatever comes next.
