Since 1998, the Model Atlanta Regional Commission (MARC) youth leadership program brings together 50 high school students representing the 10-county Atlanta region (Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties and the city of Atlanta). Advisement appointments are now available for current 9th (rising 10th) and current 10th (rising 11th) grade students/parents. Appointments are in March. Please the links below to find a day/time that works for both student and parent(s). Keep in mind that parent attendance is optional, but we always encourage parents to attend if possible. Morning appointments are typically with Mr. Penick, and afternoon appointments may meet with Mr. Jones (IB Academic Advisor).
The Leadership Cobb Alumni Association (LCAA) sponsors Cobb Youth Leadership (CYL), a leadership program for rising high school juniors that focuses on developing leadership skills through interactive participation. This program was created in 1989 to provide students a unique opportunity to learn about their community as well as meet and interact with students from other high schools.
Students attending public or private high schools or home-school students in Cobb County must complete and submit applications for CYL in the spring of their sophomore year. Applications are reviewed by the CYL Steering Committee and approximately 50 students are chosen for the class. Students participate in the program during their junior year of high school.

Casino Night/Silent Auction Recap
We had a packed house on January 20th for our first Casino Night and Silent Auction! Thank you to all who attended the event, as well as to everyone who participated in the Silent Auction. This event raised an additional $11,000 for the CHS IB Booster Club! A huge thank you to Retrograde for providing great music throughout the evening, and to Opa Greek Taverna for catering our event with delicious food. We also want to thank all of the businesses and individuals who contributed items to the Silent Auction.
CHS IB Booster Club Update
I am thrilled to announce that we have not only reached, but exceeded, our fundraising goal! To date, our gross income is over $88,000! What an impressive amount to have raised in our first year! So…what are we doing with this money?.
- The laptop cart for the 900 Hall has been paid for and ordered. It should be delivered to the school soon.
- We are starting to discuss plans to renovate the IB lab. Our goal is to have all decisions made and products ordered before the end of the school year, so renovation can take place over the summer.
- We are in the process of determining what project(s) we will fund for CHS Beautification. We plan to have this decided by the end of the school year.
- There are ongoing “operating costs” for the IB program and Booster Club, so a small portion of our fundraising will always be used for those expenses.
Again, thank you all for your support since our inception. We could not have exceeded our goal without your donations, volunteer hours, and words of support. They all have been instrumental in our success.
The CHS IB Booster Club
Rising Seniors and parents have the opportunity to meet with Mr. Penick (AM) or Mr. Jones (PM) to review the academic transcript, review the four-year plan, discuss graduation requirements, review SAT/ACT plans, and preview the senior year (scheduling, college plans, etc.)
Parent attendance is optional, but we always encourage attendance for those who are able. Please select the date/time that works best for you and your student. If your student will be attending the conference without you, please be sure he/she knows when it will take place.
NOTE: Freshman advisement will be scheduled from March 5-13, and Sophomore Advisement from March 15-23. Sign-Ups for those will be posted soon.
